MommyCon 2015 Ticket Giveaway!

MommyCon 2015 Ticket Giveaway!

I told you guys a little about MommyCon when I became a MommyCon blogger. I have been counting down the months until it comes to Columbus, Ohio on September 19, 2015. It has been fun connecting with other moms in the Facebook groups and learning from the veterans about how to make the most of the day.

Here are a few tips I have picked up:

  • Get ready to geek out. MommyCon is very kid-friendly but don’t be afraid to leave the little ones at home and enjoy your Mom time.
  • Look for deals for the area now. People have been able to get great deals on everything from hotels to parking to things to do with the kids before and after the event by keeping an eye out over the past few months.
  • Bring snacks. Even though there is food for sale, the lines tend to be long. If you have little ones with you, have dietary restrictions, or are just impatient, it’s a good idea to pack your lunch, or at least snacks and drinks. Also, leave it in the car if you can.
  • Standing room only. If you are taking kids with you, your best bet for the day is to plan on using a baby carrier and wearing a backpack. It sounds like they try to have a stroller check if you need to use one to get to the event but it will be pretty full of people so plan to carry babies and leave space in the backpack for fun finds and session materials.

For information about the Washington D.C., Columbus, Newport Beach and Seattle events, visit MommyCon. If there is a location you are interested in, scroll to the bottom to find the link to the Facebook group for the event and get in touch with other attendees. Of course, you can also follow them on social media to keep up to date with what is going on (and there are giveaways every now and then). Then, get ready for VIP tickets to go on sale closer to the actual date.

The ladies at MommyCon have been so great to work with. I am thrilled to be able to offer you a chance to win two general admission tickets to any MommyCon city in 2015! Follow the link below to enter by August 3, 2015, 11:59pm. Winner will be notified by email and have 24 hours to claim their prize. Good luck!

Favorite Cloth Diaper Accessories

When it comes to cloth diapers, a lot has changed since our parents or grandparents were using them. In addition to the wide range of styles and materials on the market, there are lots of accessories out there to make cloth diaper easier, more efficient, or just a little more fun. Here are a few of my favorites. Don’t forget to scroll down to jump on the giveaway hop and check out what other blogs are talking about!

Baby leg warmers:

There are lots of brands out there, but it’s also pretty easy to make them yourself or if you have a friend or family member with a serger. I picked up a couple of pairs of knee socks in some fun designs and my mother used her serger to pretty quickly make a handful of sets. Here is a great tutorial from Hobo Mama.

Cloth diapers tend to be a little bulkier than their disposable counterparts and need to be changed a little more often so sometimes a little tee shirt and baby leg warmers instead of pants are easier during the day. They have been great for just being around the house or to cover legs with riding in the carrier or stroller to protect legs from the sun.

Cloth diaper fastener:

I usually use pocket, all-in-one, or all-in-two style of diapers. However, on occasions when I want my daughters tush to get a little fresh air without running the risk of creating a puddle, I use prefolds and I have been able to get a great hold with Snappi. These and other fasteners on the market have replaced the old style “pins” that my mom used to use on me. I also use them with snapless fitteds for overnight, with or without covers.

Storing diapers ready to wash:

I use a regular plastic trash can with a foot peddle for the lid as our diaper pail. I line it with a Planet Wise Diaper Pail Liner which makes it easy to turn out the contents into the washing machine, set my options, and walk away. The elastic around the top keeps it in place and the generous size holds what ever my daughter can dish out. When we moved, I even used our pail liners as laundry bags. They have taken quite a beating between two children and family use and they are still in great shape.

Washing diapers:

There can be (and has been) discussions on cloth diaper detergents alone. Regardless of what detergent I use, I run the occasional wash with RLR to help remove any build up. I also use on regular clothing, especially if my whites start looking a little dingy. In the dryer, I still use these and these wool dryer balls to help clean my inserts fluffy and help them dry quicker. I hang diaper covers to dry on my Ikea drying rack.

Check out MommyCon 2015 Events!

My husband is already sick of me talking about it, but I am on a mission to make it to MommyCon this year! I was trying to figure out how to make going to Chicago from Dayton without the little ones when I found out there will be a 2015 date in Ohio. EEK! It’s going to be in Columbus so I can just make a day trip out of it.

I can’t wait. Some of my favorite bloggers and educators like The Baby Guy NYC and Dirty Diaper Laundry are set to be on the tour. I hear the prizes and swag are amazing. With my littlest already a running ball of energy, I am planning on going by myself to spend the day soaking up as much of the seminars, workshops, and exhibits as possible. Don’t get me wrong, it is very kid-friendly – in fact children under 16 can attend free with paying parents – and I know I’ll probably wish I had brought my kids at certain points, but it’s an opportunity to, hopefully, get a little mommy rejuvenation time.

More information about the Columbus, Newport Beach and Seattle will be released February 1st, but you can visit MommyCon on the web and learn about their stops in Chicago, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Orlando, and Washington D.C. You have plenty of time to make plans to get to one near you this year. If there is a location you are interested in, scroll to the bottom to find the link to the Facebook group for the event and get in touch with other attendees. Of course, you can also follow them on social media to keep up to date with what is going on (and there are giveaways every now and then).

I hope you can make it to one, too! If you do, use the promo code DOMESTIC15 for $5 off your general admission ticket (only good on general admission, not pre-sale or VIP). Have fun!

Rediscovering HOPE and Cloth Diapering Kit Giveaway

HOPE%20is%20

Are you interested in cloth diapering but not sure how to do it affordably? A new book, Rediscovering HOPE – A step-by-step guide to flat cloth diapers, was recently released and deals specifically with how the author, Amy McKnight, found HOPE for the problem of diaper need using classic flat cloth diapers on her daughter from day 1. It is part of her advocacy work to help get information on cloth diapering in general and affordable cloth diapering in particular to families that need it most.

The more I cloth diaper, the more I see how economical it is. It makes me cringe a little to think about babies wearing diapers too long because parents are trying to stretch their diaper budget. Even part-time cloth diapering can cut down on how much money is spent on diapers regularly. A hurdle for us to start cloth diapering was the initial start up cost so I know it can be daunting but there are ways to use inexpensive items and some that you may already have around the house to diaper your child.

You can visit HOPE online to learn more. During the month of June you can download a copy of the Kindle edition of Rediscovering HOPE for FREE from Amazon.com on: Wednesday 6/4/2014, Wednesday 6/11/2014, Wednesday 6/18/2014, and Wednesday and Thursday 6/25/2014 – 5/26/2014.

You do NOT need a Kindle to read the book! You can read it for free on any computer or tablet using Amazon’s free software available here.

There is also a Rafflecopter giveaway currently running. Prizes are two kits that contain diaper covers, Snappi, diaper liners, wet/dry bag, a ready to use classic flat cloth diaper and a print copy of Rediscovering HOPE. One of the two kits will have a Breathing Mobile Washer Hand washing device, clothes line, and clothespins in addition to the things listed above. Third prize is a Breathing Mobile Hand washer.

To enter the contest to win one of the prizes, you just need to leave (one) book review here any time during the month of June. The three winners will be chosen by Random.org and announced on July the 1st.

Imagine Cloth Diaper Review and Giveaway

imagine header 2 Collage 2

I have tried a few all-in-one cloth diapers with mixed results over my time cloth diapering but had decided to stay with pockets. Some recent success had made me curious to try them out again. At the same time, I’ve been trying out bamboo inserts so the chance to try a bamboo all-in-one was something I couldn’t pass up. I received a bamboo all-in-one diaper from Imagine Baby Products to try out and let you know about.

First off, how cute is their Trumpet print?! I love that it is gender neutral and I enjoy the rounded style of all their prints. The colors they use have a nice, vibrant appearance. The main thing I couldn’t get over when I opened the diaper up was how soft the coordinating colored, 70% bamboo/30% cotton inside was. With 3 sizes in one diaper, this should fit 8-35 lbs.

imagine features Collage

The star of the show is the 4-layer bamboo soaker pad. It is soft and very absorbent without feeling too think or heavy. It snaps into the back of the liner so it can be taken off to wash or you can leave it on. It runs the full length of the completely unsnapped cover so it needs to be folded up when the rise is shortened. It has made getting my squirmy 7 month old spanned in to it a little tricky at times since it ends up being a little full in the front (they also come in hook and loop). However, once it’s on, it’s still pretty trim.

As I said before, it is quite absorbent but the cut of the diaper keeps everything contained. All that bamboo power does have a small price – I have found that it takes a little longer to dry after being washed compared to microfiber and fleece lined pockets. I choose to give my inserts a head start by putting them in the dryer on low before hanging any that are still damp so I have been detaching the soaker from the diaper. If you choose to leave it connected, there is one less step before and after washing and your diaper will be ready for its next use.

imagine Collage front back

Speaking of prices to pay, that may be one of the best features of this diaper. For a bamboo, one-size diaper, $14.95 is a great price. You can check out the entire Imagine Baby Products line here. Matching baby leggings anyone? Use coupon code DM to get a discount on your entire purchase! (Code good through the end of May.)
